The first edition of MITIL in June 2001 proved, without a doubt, that the initiative taken to launch an event aimed specifically at Independent and Local Broadcasters, both Television and Radio, as well as independent producers and programme makers, was extremely positive; an opinion so strongly expressed by the participants themselves and the specialised press that the organisers had no option but to proceed with preparations for a second edition, MITIL 02, which will open its doors on June 12 and close them on June 15.
MITIL has proved its right to exist as the permanent yearly global fixture which stimulates and facilitates the networking of a community which continues to become larger, more inventive and creative. It offers a platform to the players active in local broadcasting, both at European and international level, who have, at last, their own rendez-vous which meets their needs.
The MITIL 02 Programme Market, with its unique electronically based Videokiosk, will, once again, be a principal feature; selling, buying, exchanging and arranging co-productions is what it's all about.
In two weeks' time, MITIL 02 will be welcoming the management and heads of networks from countries not only in many countries of Europe but also overseas - a representation in itself of some thousands of independent and local broadcasters.
The Discussion Forums and Conferences are split into two streams at MITIL 02, one television and one radio, each with its own conferences, sessions, panel discussions, seminars, and outstanding workshops - 2 television oriented, one of which takes place over a 2 days' period (June 13 and 14), organised by experts from UNESCO, AUDIOVISUAL EUREKA and The European Group of Television Advertising. A full-scale Training Programme will be targeted at the development of independent and local broadcasters.
The second full-day TV-oriented creative workshop takes place on June 15, of a creative nature, which demands the active participation of the audience; it is entitled "What is Harder to Find - Money or Ideas ?" An avant-garde team of TV professionals in the Balkans - the B92 Radio and TV stations, and the ANEM Group, a network of local TV stations in Yugoslavia, will, for the first time in the West, lead this workshop.
The third workshop, Radio-oriented, is also of a full day's duration and takes place on June 14. It will consist of an analysis and structural profile of the 3 main jobs in radio: DJ, Editor-in-Chief and Sound Engineer.

Thanks to its partnership with Audiovisual EUREKA in Brussels and the National Association of Television and Radio Broadcasters in Moscow, MITIL 02 looks forward to welcoming 60 participants approximately from Eastern, Central and Southern Europe. NAT in Moscow is coming with a delegation of 15 local radio and tv broadcasters, not only from Moscow itself, but also from other regions in Russia.
Vevey, already reputed for its cultural heritage, will, therefore, via these partnerships which allow MITIL to receive participants from such, until recently, almost inaccessible areas, live again a cultural and rewarding experience by welcoming back to its shores representatives of countries, which, by way of a number of its illustrious artists, musicians, etc. contributed, at the beginning of the last century to the birth of 'la belle epoque' on the Swiss Riviera.
Times may well have changed since then but the creative and independent spirit is still very present... May it continue and provide the organisers of MITIL with ever more demanding challenges in the years to come !!
