PRESS RELEASE 04/12/00
MITIL, The International Market for Independent & Local Broadcasters
will take place June 20-23, 2001 Vevey (Lake Geneva) Switzerland.
It is the first time in the World of programme markets and technical exhibitions in the audiovisual field that an event is dedicated exclusively to the local and independent broadcasters and producers. They will gather at the same time and place at the occasion of a programme market, a technical exhibition and discussion forum.
The local or regional broadcasters as well as the “newcomers” from the internet, the webcasters, go by the thousands around the world. The accumulation of their market shares makes them become partners who cannot be ignored within the audiovisual sphere.
MITIL offers this enormous potential clientele an authentic platform consisting of a programme- and co- producers market. There will also be a technical exhibition in direct relation with the needs of equipment and solutions, which are specific to the trade (and their budget!). In addition there will be discussion forums in order to favour the exchange of ideas. Conferences and case studies with direct relation to the real day to day activities of local and regional broadcasters will be arranged in order to offer also a tutorial aspect to the event.
Following an invitation of MITIL, representatives of national associations of independent European broadcasters already met November 25 & 26 in Vevey.
The Initiators coming from Belgium, Italy, Spain and Switzerland, representing together some 1500 members, signed a Chart. Its action plan foresees the founding in February 2001 of an European Federation of Independent and Local Broadcasters.
Based on the same model, an International Webcasters Federation will be created. Its purpose is to take care of the specific needs of internet actors.
Immediately following the creation of the first Federation, a Global Service Organisation, a Consortium, serving the members of both federations will be launched.
The first convention of this new organism will take place during MITIL, June 20-23 2001 in Vevey, Switzerland.
Independent and local broadcasters play an increasingly important role on the audiovisual ground. This, thanks also to the appearance of the web generation. The combined market share allows them to become partners who cannot be ignored.
The independent broadcasters, by uniting their efforts and spreading the same message make themselves become a solid partner. The industry has discovered it and comes up with specific solutions. Politicians, local authorities and public service better take note of the high energy they incorporate.
